THE SKINNY ON HOLIDAY CHEER (booze!)
I enjoy a good glass of wine or a good martini just like anyone else but there a a few things we all need to keep in mind during the holidays.
1. Limit Your Alcohol: Lets face it, alcohol is crap. Aside from red wine, alcohol is basically devoid of nutrients and does not do the body any favors. So please understand that you are better off eating an extra cookie than consuming numerous cocktails.
Booze for thought: To burn off 150 Calories (the average amount in one beer) you would need to jog for 15 min at a 10 mile an hour pace. Keep in mind that your resolve can be really strong when you are sober, but after a few drinks, you may find yourself mindlessly overeating cookies, candy, pizza, or whatever food is within striking distance. So ask yourself at your next party- Is this extra drink really worth it?
2. Choose Wisely: Pick wine, light beer, or simple cocktails made with low-calorie mixers. Mix cocktails with water, club soda, low calorie juices, artificial sweeteners (diet soda) or sugar-free syrups for easy calorie savings. Fruit and vegetable juices can be good choices because they are lower in calories than some other mixers and also contain disease-preventing antioxidants. Still be careful of fruit juices because even though they are more nutritious, the calories can add up quickly.
3. Hydrate: Alternate alcoholic drinks with a glass of water. As well as saving calories, it will also help to prevent dehydration and help prevent a serious hangover.
